ORLANDO, Fla., May 17, 2023 — AdventHealth has opened the doors of a unique emergency room located near Walt Disney World Resort, bringing trusted emergency care and a first-of-its-kind patient experience for Central Florida visitors and community members, including Walt Disney World Resort guests and cast members.

To commemorate this important milestone in the latest chapter of the alliance in which AdventHealth became the Official Health Care Provider of Walt Disney World Resort, as well as the Official Virtual Health Care Provider of Walt Disney World  Resort, special guests – Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse -- participated in a recent ceremonial ribbon-cutting.

“We are proud of this unique and innovative facility, which will provide convenient, whole-person care for Central Floridians and visitors alike,” said Randy Haffner, CEO of AdventHealth Florida. “We are combining AdventHealth’s clinical expertise and Disney-inspired designs to provide exceptional care within a calming environment.

“We want to provide this option so visitors can get the care they need with minimal disruption to their plans and enjoy the trip of a lifetime,” Haffner added.

Across Florida, AdventHealth has over 57,000 team members and more than 40 hospitals and emergency rooms. But the ER at FLAMINGO CROSSINGS Town Center, nearthe western gateway of Walt Disney World Resort, is completely unique.

The approximately 19,000-square-foot facility has everything you would expect of an ER: 24 private patient rooms; respiratory therapy; diagnostic imaging including CT scans, X-ray and ultrasound; and a full-service laboratory, and a comprehensive clinical team including board-certified emergency physicians and nurses.

But an intentional design and collaboration with Disney sets this freestanding emergency department apart.

The ER’s design and patient experience are unique in the AdventHealth network, with Key West-influenced architecture and Disney-inspired touches and familiar characters from The Little Mermaid, Moana, and the Finding Nemo film series to enhance the patient experience. The patients’ journey to whole-person care begins with a unified water-themed setting, the the lobby designed to simulate a pier.

With the use of color, sound and light, the design is intended to help patients feel at ease and feel whole. By utilizing unique technology, patients can create a peaceful and calming environment that puts control in the palm of their hands. Patient rooms are even equipped with a media screen that features custom Disney animated content.

And the ER is part of a larger collaboration to ensure visitors to Central Florida have access to the services they need. For Walt Disney World Resort guests with health care needs, AdventHealth also provides a diverse range of services and vacation planning tools, both before and during their trips through the AdventHealth World of Wellness. The AdventHealth World of Wellness is a health care ecosystem that offers Walt Disney World Resort guests access to convenient care services – from virtual visits to prescription dropoff at Disney hotels -- that are just a call or a click away.

"As the official health care provider of Walt Disney World Resort, AdventHealth is there to offer medical care for our guests if they need it. Their new full-service emergency room at FLAMINGO CROSSINGS Town Center is also a welcome addition to the community and its residents,” said Jeff Vahle, president of Walt Disney World Resort.

“There are so many great Disney touches throughout this facility,” Vahle added. “And we hope those will give people here great comfort knowing there’s a special relationship between the Walt Disney World Resort and AdventHealth.”

Gator with missing jaw finds home in Florida park

A Florida reptile park has taken in an alligator that lost its nose and upper jaw to a fight or boat propeller. Gatorland Orlando said over the weekend that the injured alligator came from a lake in nearby Sanford, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Orlando. “She had basically no chance of surviving in the wild with such a severe injury,” the park said in a social media post.
