Memorial Day Weekend is considered the unofficial kick-off of summer travels. As the United States gears up for what could be a record-breaking year for summer travel…pressure is being applied from pilot unions. ”US airlines are cued up to potentially have a strike this summer.," said Dr. Jase Ramsey, and International Business professor at Florida Gulf Coast University. “In my perspective, it comes down to money. One of the other airlines recently gave a 21 percent pay raise.”

› Kansas City law firm expands to Florida, adds two Tampa-based partners
Stinson LLP, a national law firm headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, has opened an office in Tampa — its first in Florida — and appointed two locally based partners, Marc Weintraub and Stephen Putnoki-Higgins. The pair, according to a news release, will work with another Stinson LLP partner, Todd Phelps, who’s been splitting time between Florida and Minnesota for several years.

› Duval County hotel occupancy down in April
Duval County hotel occupany decreased in April to 73.5%, according to data from STR provided by Visit Jacksonville. Although lower than 2022, the number of rooms sold in Duval County was similar to the demand in April 2019. The average room rate was $122.69, which was up 1.2% compared with 2022 and $20 higher than April 2019.
