Florida businesses share benefits of embracing shorter workweek

It’s a concept that, in recent years, has started to gain traction. What if instead of working five, eight-hour days, you worked four days a week? Even three? Congressional leaders this year were entertaining the idea of making this more common. But in Florida, several companies are already applying the new concept. More from WFTS.

‘Historic’ Florida flooding cited as reason for 15-cent surge last week

Drivers no doubt noticed a significant price increase at the pumps last week. The surge was due to the “historic” flooding of South Florida, according to a press release from AAA. The flooding caused widespread gasoline outages, necessitating the reallocation of fuel supplies from other regions. Gas trucks could not access gas terminals in Port Everglades, a hub for filling stations for Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. More from the Orlando Sentinel.

For 43 years, the West Tampa shop dressed women in beautiful clothing – first casual wear, then formal and bridal. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Going out ‘green.’ Demand grows for Florida funerals that preserve nature, cut pollution

“Green” or “natural” burials — which sometimes happen at specialized conservation cemeteries like Prairie Creek, but can also happen at a handful of conventional lawn-and-tombstone cemeteries — have become increasingly popular over the past two decades. In Florida, there are at least seven cemeteries that offer the service. Nearly all of them are in Central Florida, requiring South Florida families to drive hundreds of miles to bury their dead, producing carbon emissions along the way.

Prominent restaurateur Paul Fleming’s secret sauce? Worry. But be flawless.

Even after almost four decades in the restaurant business, even after building and growing notable successful national chains like Fleming’s Steakhouse and P.F. Chang’s, and even with the wisdom of being 68 years old, when Naples restaurateur Paul Fleming is asked what keeps him up at night about his latest concept, PJK Neighborhood Chinese, he answers flatly, “it’s everything.”
