Humana Drives Healthy Floridians — and Florida

Independent analysis projected that Humana in 2022 would contribute $48 billion in economic impact and drive 288,000 jobs in its work to serve 2.6 million Floridians statewide

Humana Inc. does more than help keep 2.6 million Floridians healthy. It helps keep the state’s economy healthy, too.

According to a 2021 independent economic research analysis by the Florida State University Center for Economic Forecasting and Analysis, Humana would contribute $48 billion in overall economic impact statewide in 2022. Florida is also home to more Humana employees and health plan members than any other state, with approximately 11,000 employees and 2.6 million members. As an employer in Florida, Humana was directly and indirectly responsible for $18 billion in wages and $472 million in taxes.

The study was commissioned by Humana and is based primarily on Humana financial data.

Humana provides Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Prescription Drug, Medicare Supplement, commercial employer group and TRICARE health coverage. Its largest lines of business in Florida are Medicare Advantage, and Humana Healthy Horizons, its Medicaid brand, which is one of just two comprehensive plans serving Medicaid beneficiaries in all 11 of the state’s regions.

“Humana has a long history of serving Florida and its people, and this analysis clearly demonstrates the significant and ongoing impact that Humana is having on our state’s economy,” says Ron Weeden, senior vice president and Humana Medicaid division leader, based in Tampa. “We at Humana are proud to be part of the fabric of this great state and of the important role we play not only economically, but also in improving the health of Floridians and our local communities.”

Humana’s ability to deliver on its mission to improve health and well-being in Florida is only possible through the collaboration between Humana and the state’s healthcare providers, policymakers, community stakeholders, and potential employees statewide.

“It’s hard to overstate Florida’s importance to Humana’s ongoing success,” said Caraline Coats, Regional President, Medicare for Humana in Florida. “From Jacksonville and the Panhandle in the north to Miami and Broward County in the south, and Tampa, Orlando and everywhere in between, we’re dedicated to helping those we serve achieve their best health, and we enjoy long-lasting, productive and mutually beneficial relationships with health care providers, community organizations and suppliers across the state.”
