› Who were Lauderdale, Broward, Sistrunk? Florida authors series will look at Fort Lauderdale’s evolution and personalities
It’s hard to believe, but a comprehensive history of Fort Lauderdale hasn’t been updated in book form in several decades. Those decades have been quite newsworthy, so there’s a lot to catch up on: the multiplication of high-rise condos; the revitalization of the downtown; a rise in the homeless population; the arrival of Brightline train service; the COVID-19 pandemic.

› Baptist Health applies for permit to open in JU Health Sciences Complex
Baptist Health intends to join the Dolphin Pointe Landing medical care complex north of the Jacksonville University main campus in Arlington, according to a pending building permit application. Jacksonville-based Baptist Health wants to relocate its Baptist Primary Care Arlington center to the JU Health Sciences Complex at 5491 Dolphin Point Blvd., which is off of University Boulevard North.

› Jacksonville's track meet honoring world's fastest man began 59 years ago
What would soon become the Bob Hayes Invitational Track Meet started off relatively small 59 years ago when five teams from Jacksonville's segregated Black high schools, 80 athletes and 11 track officials gathered at Douglas Anderson High. Several months later, Hayes, a Jacksonville native, won two gold medals at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and was dubbed the world's fastest man. Upon his return, he agreed to put his name on what would become an annual event each march.

› Miami has room for improvement when it comes to Black owned businesses
The number one and number two cities for Black-owned businesses across the United States are Atlanta, followed by Washington DC. So where is Miami on LendingTree's survey of the percentage of Black-owned businesses? The Magic City came in at 14, not a bad number, but there is room for improvement. "The numbers are okay but obviously still lots of room to grow, even ranking 14th," said LendingTree's chief analyst Matt Schultz.
