DiBella Tapped to Lead Enterprise Florida

The Enterprise Florida Board of Directors on Monday formally elevated Laura DiBella to run the business-recruitment agency.

DiBella, whose new title is secretary of commerce in addition to being president and CEO of Enterprise Florida, is the first woman to lead the agency.

“She speaks both the corporate language and the economic-development language,” Enterprise Florida Vice Chairwoman Holly Borgmann said during Monday’s online board meeting.

“I’ve also seen the way she’s brought together the staff in a way that really unifies them and keeps them moving in lockstep with each other.”

DiBella has been deputy secretary since joining Enterprise Florida last year.

Jamal Sowell stepped down from leading the agency in October 2021.

After Sowell left, Marc Adler was named acting secretary of commerce and acting president and CEO of Enterprise Florida.

In June, Adler became the leader of the Florida Development Finance Corp.

The corporation, which was created by the state, helps finance economic-development efforts through issuing bonds.

DiBella said she appreciated the “overwhelming vote of confidence” and promised “this is just the beginning.”

DiBello previously served as executive director of the Florida Harbor Pilots Association and the Nassau County Economic Development Board.
