Florida ports see jump in cargo

But the Florida Ports Council thinks the passenger-cruise industry is still a year or two from regaining pre-pandemic strength. The council’s 2021-2022 Seaport Mission Plan mostly provides a snapshot of the industry in 2021. It reflected the industry rebounding from the impact of the pandemic, while also outlining $4.5 billion in wish-list proposals to further bulk up ports against rising seas and to take advantage of labor issues at West Coast ports and lingering global supply-chain problems. State-led Cairo mission nets $38 million in Florida trade

Florida companies that benefitted from the trade mission were service providers and small to medium-sized manufacturers. Two of Enterprise Florida’s international team, which is based in Coral Gables, facilitated business conversations between the firms and their equivalents in Egypt. “We took two of our staff members led by Joseph Bell and we brought 10 Florida companies with us,” said Enterprise Florida’s Senior Vice President TJ Villamil. Governor Ron DeSantis recognizes Florida's Teacher of the Year finalists

Governor DeSantis highlighted five teacher of the year finalists and awarded each one with a $15,000 bonus. Governor DeSantis also highlighted Florida’s continuing education achievements over the past year, including Florida’s ranking as third in the nation for K-12 achievement according to the latest Quality Counts report. Casper family selling all 60 McDonald's franchise restaurants – and part of Tampa's history with them

The Caspers are planning to get out of the McDonald’s business, selling all 60 of their restaurants back to the McDonald’s corporation. With them goes a part of Tampa history, too. "I went as a little girl. And that was a real treat," said Tampa resident Cheri Cary, a frequent McDonald’s customer. Some of Cary’s first and fondest memories are times spent with her family at Tampa’s first McDonald’s restaurant when it opened back in 1958. More from the WTSP.

 Ellis McGhee’s old-school boxing and fitness gym in the Rail Yard District doesn’t come with frills. There is no juice bar. There are no TVs with headsets. There are no treadmills with screens showing a virtual mountain jog. There’s not even air conditioning at the 5,200-square-foot cinder-block building. “You’re going to get the authentic 100% boxing experience here,” McGhee said.
