Former St. Petersburg Mayor Kriseman Joins Shumaker Advisors, law firm

| 1/31/2022

Former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman is joining Shumaker Advisors Florida as Managing Principal of the U.S. Cities Practice, where he will focus on sustainable economic development and urban planning, as well as the Shumaker law firm in its public policy and government affairs division.

Kriseman completed his second term as the city’s mayor in early January and had not indicated his future plans at the time of his departure from city hall. First elected as St. Petersburg’s 53rd mayor in 2014, Kriseman was succeeded by Mayor Ken Welch.

“Tampa Bay has incredible potential. With our top leaders and greatest minds working together, the region’s future is brighter than ever,” Kriseman said. “I am honored to join the prestigious team at Shumaker Advisors and to work with their clients who are committed to ensuring that our communities become better places for all

Kriseman is the second former mayor in the Tampa Bay Region to announce joining Shumaker Advisors in January, with former Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn taking a role in communications strategy, public affairs consulting, and business development services. With offices in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C., Shumaker Advisors in recent months has added several other former public officials, including former South Carolina Governor and Congressman Mark Sanford and retired Florida Congressman David Jolly. Shumaker is the Tampa Bay Region’s largest law firm.

During Kriseman’s tenure as mayor of the 270,000-population city, he spearheaded clean energy and transportation projects, including the Cross Bay Ferry, Complete Streets, bike sharing and e-scooter programs, and Bus Rapid Transit. The global network ‘Apolitical’ ranked him as one of the world’s 100 most influential climate policy leaders.

“We are honored to have Rick join Shumaker Advisors. His vision to achieve economic growth, while focusing on sustainability and purpose inspires us all,” said Shumaker Advisors President and CEO Ron Christaldi. “It is a compliment to our team that Rick believes in our ability to make a true impact and we are excited for more success ahead.”
