DeSantis awards more 'job growth' money

Gov. Ron DeSantis continued to dole out money from the state’s Job Growth Grant Fund on Monday. DeSantis awarded $6 million to Hernando County for manufacturing, education, health-care and aviation vocational training programs at Pasco-Hernando State College and another $6 million to widen an entry road to the 300-acre Gov. Rick Scott Industrial Park in Sumter County.

The road work is expected to alleviate bottlenecks at the industrial park.

DeSantis has discretion to use the Job Growth Grant Fund, which received $50 million in the current fiscal year from state lawmakers, for infrastructure and workforce projects.

Last week, DeSantis distributed a total of $16.69 million in grants for water and wastewater work in North Port and St. Pete Beach, to improve vehicle access to the Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center in Winter Haven, for a diesel-mechanic training program at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville and to expand Collier County-based Immokalee Technical College into Glades County.
