› Justices weigh red-light camera fees
Florida Supreme Court justices appeared skeptical Tuesday of a potential class-action lawsuit challenging credit-card fees that a company collects from motorists who get caught on camera running red lights. The court heard arguments in a lawsuit filed by motorist Steven Pincus against American Traffic Solutions, Inc. after Pincus was nabbed running a red light in 2018 in North Miami Beach.

› Group works to make Pinellas beaches more accessible
In a region largely defined by its coastline, billions of tourism dollars are pumped into the local economy by visiting beach-goers each year. But for an estimated 117,000 Pinellas County residents with a mobility disability — defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention as someone who has serious difficulty walking or climbing stairs — the coveted beaches in their own backyards remain largely inaccessible.

› Airport hits new monthly passenger record
Nearly 650,000 people traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers in August, setting a new monthly record. In total, the airport, under the call letters RSW, recorded 647,534 passengers during the month, according to a statement. That was an increase of 180% compared to August 2020 and 23% more than the passenger traffic in August 2019. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 66.7% compared to last year, the release adds.

› State transportation officials OK heliport sites for two Florida hospitals
State transportation officials announced Wednesday preliminary site approval for new heliports at two central Florida hospitals. The Florida Department of Transportation announced its intent to issue “airport site approval order(s),” for Orlando Health Reunion Heliport in Osceola County and Advent Health Hospital Port Orange Heliport in Volusia County.
