After serving its unique hamburgers in downtown Gainesville for 82 years, Louis' Lunch is closing around the first week of November, owner Tom Pennisi says.

Sales dropped with the recession and worsened when construction clogged South Main Street, going from about $300 in sales a day to $200, he said. And at 75, Pennisi doesn't foresee waiting for the day when business improves.

"I'm just making my dad's hamburgers, trying to keep the legacy going, but it's time for me to retire," he said.
