An Orlando cardiologist agreed to pay $6.75 million to the federal government over claims his practice performed medically unnecessary vein treatments and stent procedures, often using ultrasound technicians acting outside their scope of practice, federal authorities said Wednesday.
The agreement, announced by the U.S. Department of Justice, contends that Dr. Ashish Pal and his practice, Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Consultants on North Mills Avenue, made “misrepresentations” in patients’ medical records in order to bill Medicare, the U.S. military’s Tricare insurance and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program for procedures the programs normally wouldn’t cover.
