Hurricane season’s next named storm could form early this week

The next named storm of the 2021 hurricane season is poised to form this week just east of the Caribbean Sea. The National Hurricane Center has given the potential cyclone, one of two in the Atlantic, a 70 percent chance of forming in the next two days. Early models show the storm’s path could take it over Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and toward the Sunshine State by the weekend. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

New JEA headquarters building in downtown Jacksonville on track for completion in 2022

The new JEA headquarters building in downtown Jacksonville is taking shape with the steel structure of the entire seven-story building in place and work continuing at a pace for the utility to move into new digs in the second half of 2022. City officials have said it's the first major office tower built in the downtown core since the 1980s. More from the Florida Times-Union.

Despite a hot home market, Orlando’s population growth has been cooling down

U.S. Census population estimates show for the third consecutive year, more residents moved out of Orange County than moved into it from within the state and or the continental United States. Norwegian can require cruise passengers show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, judge rules

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings can require passengers show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, despite a Florida law barring companies from doing just that, a federal judge in Miami ruled Sunday. The third-largest cruise company in the world sued Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees in July, arguing the state law puts passengers and crew at risk and violates federal law and the company’s constitutional rights. Florida gas prices climb past $3 per gallon again

Floridians saw a mid-week surge in gasoline prices last week that eased a bit over the weekend, but still settled at more than $3 per gallon on average. Florida’s average price for a gallon of gasoline was $3.02 per gallon Sunday, AAA — The Auto Club Group, reported Monday morning. That’s up 5 cents over the previous report. Gas prices hit the new 2021 zenith of $3.03 per gallon late last week. More from Florida Politics.

Customer leaves $1,000 tip at Florida restaurant

 The wait staff and cooks at a restaurant in Panama City Beach, Florida, were rewarded for their hard work with a $1,000 tip, according to a Facebook post. Firefly describes itself as “casual fine dining” and is located on Richard Jackson Boulevard. The restaurants’ owner, Dave Trepanier, posted about the tip last week.
