Judge weighs constitutionality of social media law

A federal judge on Monday appeared skeptical about a new Florida law aimed at punishing social-media companies that strip users from their platforms or flag users’ content. Online-industry groups NetChoice and the Computer & Communications Industry Association this month filed a lawsuit challenging the law, pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis after Twitter and Facebook blocked former President Donald Trump from their platforms after his supporters rampaged at the U.S. Capital on Jan. 6. More from the News Service of Florida.

L3Harris gets new CEO as part of planned transition following merger

Melbourne-based L3Harris Technologies Inc. on Tuesday completed its chief executive officer transition process, as Christopher Kubasik succeeded William Brown as CEO of the aerospace and defense technology company. L3Harris is Brevard County's third-largest employer — behind Brevard Public Schools and Health First — with about 8,000 people on its local staff, most at facilities in Melbourne and Palm Bay. Florida manufacturer wins critical federal approval to produce masks for the military

Jabil Inc. has won a key designation from the Department of Defense that will allow it to develop a domestic supply chain of single-use, disposable FDA-cleared three-ply surgical masks. The masks, which were deemed Berry Amendment-compliant, will be produced by the St. Petersburg company’s medical device subsidiary NP Medical Inc. Jabil officials say in a statement emailed to investors Monday that the masks filter 99 % of submicron aerosols. More from the Business Observer.

In a first-of-its-kind offering, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is giving members access to discounted health insurance through Kendall-based AvMed health group. The offering, called the Greater Health Trust, will provide health insurance premium discounts of as much as 30% compared with rates found on a typical employer-based plan for Chamber member businesses with 50 or fewer employees. The average small-group premium in Miami-Dade County is currently more than $460 a month for employers, AvMed says. More from the Miami Herald.

The fastest-selling vehicles in Florida and other states

 The global microchip shortage continues to impact new and used car sales, with new car inventory decreasing by 15.7 percent and used car inventory decreasing by 2.1 percent in May over April. With less inventory comes higher prices, as used car prices rose 6.3 percent and new car prices rose 1.2 percent during the same period.
