Advanced Cancer Treatment Centers Announces Its Medical Staff

Spring Hill & Brooksville, Florida (September 28, 2020) – Advanced Cancer Treatment Centers (ACTC), located at 15211 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, Florida 34613, announces that its patients will be treated by the following physicians and nurse practitioners:

Radiation Oncologists

Clayton Elliott Alonso, MD. Dr. Alonso joined ACTC directly from completing his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was selected as Chief Resident in his third year. While completing his residency he received the Constable Agarwal Award and the clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Alonso also completed his post-graduate internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville where he was also recognized as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Alonso also holds an undergraduate degree from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, with a dual concentration Bachelor of Science degree in biology and economics, where he graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Sigma Xi. Dr. Alonso has published extensively on breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, rectal cancer, brain tumors, cardiac SBRT (stereotactic body radiation therapy), stereotactic radial surgery and brachy therapy. 

Peter Zavitsanos, MD. Dr. Zavitsanos came to Advanced Cancer Treatment Centers from Tufts Medical Center Department of Radiation Oncology where he completed a four-year residency. Prior to his residency, he completed a transitional year internship at Sigma Health Care Brockton Hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts. He received both his medical degree and undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. 

While at Tufts Medical Center Dr. Zavitsanos was recognized as Chief Resident in Radiation Oncology. While at the University of Florida College of Medicine he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was recognized by the Medical Student Admissions Committee and the Pathology Honor Society and received the Medical Guild Merit Award. Dr. Zavitsanos is proficient in both English and Spanish. He has conducted research in the areas of breast cancer, SBRT, thyroid cancer and endometrial cancer. 

Hematologists & Medical Oncologists

Aaron Denson, MD, came to ACTC after completing his fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Moffett Cancer Center University of South Florida. He received both his Bachelor of Science degree and his medical degree from Tulane University. Following his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine he completed a medical internship and residency at the University of South Florida Department of Internal Medicine, Tampa General Hospital, James A. Haley VA Hospital, and the Moffett Cancer Center. 

Dr. Denson is the author of countless publications in both basic science and clinical research. 

D. Alan Kerr, II, MD, PhD, comes to ACTC from the hematology and medical oncology fellowship program at Moffett Cancer Center/University of South Florida. Prior to his three-year fellowship program at Moffett Cancer Center, Dr. Kerr completed an internal medicine residency program at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, where he served as Chief Medical Resident for the Department of Internal Medicine. Following his completion, he also served as assistant professor of Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville. Dr. Kerr also holds a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Louisville. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He also holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the renowned Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. 

Dr. Kerr is the author of countless publications, oral presentations, and abstracts on a wide range of oncology topics. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.

Nurse Practitioners

Amy Morgan, APRNC-C, is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, with a specialty in hematology and oncology. She received her Master of Science degree in nursing from South University in Tampa, Florida, where she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and graduate magna cum laude. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Governors’ University. She holds a wide range of certifications. 

Elizabeth Morgan, APRN, AOCN (Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse), has been serving patients in Hernando County for nearly three decades. She completed her undergraduate education at Pasco-Hernando Community College earning an associate degree in nursing. She continued her nursing education at the University of South Florida completing both a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s in science degree for nurse practitioners, majoring in oncology. 

Ms. Morgan has held several positions in the nursing field including staff nurse in medicine and surgery and nurse manager in telemetry at Oak Hill Hospital and nurse supervisor for another practice.
