Who said that?

Florida's quote of the day

| 8/4/2020

"I have employees who are younger than those seats."

-- Numa Saisselin

Fans attending events at the Florida Theatre will finally get a little wiggle room.

The historic downtown Jacksonville theater is replacing all of its seats, which date back to the 1980s, when the city renovated the building into a performing arts venue.

"I have employees who are younger than those seats," said Numa Saisselin, president of the theater.

The seats were originally scheduled to be replaced this summer as part of a $10 million renovation announced earlier this year. The schedule was changed early in the project, and the seats were to be replaced in 2021 instead while work was done on the projection and sound systems this year. When it became clear that COVID-19 concerns were going to keep the theater for opening any time soon, the seats project was moved back forward, Saisselin said.
