Ascension Sacred Heart's children's hospital $85-million expansion

Carlton Proctor | 7/27/2020

Ascension’s children’s hospital is on a growth spurt.

Only a year after opening, Ascension Sacred Heart’s $85-million, 126-bed Studer Family Children’s Hospital in Pensacola is undergoing a growth spurt.

In May, hospital executives announced three expansion projects:

  • Construction is underway on a $19-million pediatric intensive care unit that includes an operating room designed specifically for pediatric surgeries. Completion is expected in early 2021.
  • In July, construction began on a pediatric oncology center, which will include accommodations for parents and siblings.
  • The pediatric sleep center at Ascension’s Pensacola campus opened in July. The center will serve children with conditions such as sleep-disordered breathing, central apnea, behavioral sleep disorders, circadian-rhythm disorders, insomnia, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome.

In addition to the expansions, the children’s hospital now has 120 physicians covering some 30 pediatric specialties.

“Like the children, families and communities we serve, the Studer Family Children’s Hospital continues to grow," says Will Condon, the hospital's president. “But we are not finished. We will continue to add programs and services that meet the needs of families across the Gulf Coast and beyond.”
