New USF President Joins Moffitt Cancer Center's Institute Board

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 9, 2019) —Steven Currall, Ph.D., has joined the Moffitt Cancer Center Institute Board of Directors. Currall was recently named president of the University of South Florida and will replace former USF President Judy Genshaft on Moffitt’s Institute Board effective July 1.

“We are pleased to have Steven Currall join the Institute Board,” said Alan F. List, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt. “I look forward to working with President Currall as Moffitt continues to grow and expand its footprint in the Tampa Bay area and beyond.”

Currall is USF’s seventh president and formerly served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Before his role at Southern Methodist, Currall was the chancellor’s senior adviser for strategic projects and initiatives and dean of the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis.

Currall holds a doctorate in organizational behavior from Cornell, a master’s degree in social psychology from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Baylor University. He has received more than $21 million in research grants, taught for nearly 30 years and has served on multiple editorial review boards.

Currall is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was the lead author of a book on university-business-government collaboration titled Organized Innovation: A Blueprint for Renewing America’s Prosperity (Oxford University Press).

Moffitt’s Institute Board establishes the overall mission, strategic plan, and operational and financial standards and policies. It also coordinates system affairs. Currall joins 21 other prominent figures on the Institute Board.
