Florida’s under-70 population now majority-minority

The majority of Floridians under 70 are now people of color, according to Census population estimates released Thursday. White, non-Hispanic people still make up 53.5 percent of all Florida residents but just 49.9 percent of those younger than 70 years old. Florida crossed this demographic threshold in 2018, according to estimates of the nation’s population on July 1 of that year, part of a national trend of increasing racial diversity. Multi-state law firm adds Southwest Florida partner

The law firm of Roetzel & Andress has expanded its estate, planning tax and transactional group in Southwest Florida with the addition of David Ruben as a shareholder in the firm’s Naples office. Ruben will advise individuals and families on sophisticated estate planning and wealth preservation strategies, according to a statement. More from the Business Observer.

Central Florida company selected to demolish Jacksonville Landing

The City of Jacksonville has selected a demolition company from Central Florida to demolish the Jacksonville Landing, according to a meeting agenda from the City of Jacksonville. D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. is expected to demolish the Landing in a project that could cost $1,074,002, the agenda says. The decision still pends final approval, expected to be made at Thursday's General Government Awards Committee Meeting. More from First Coast News.

More than 660 South Florida workers laid off

Despite historically low unemployment, job cuts are still occurring in South Florida, according to notifications directly to workers and to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Reasons employers cited for the layoffs include changing consumer habits, facility closures, changes of ownership and lost government contracts. More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Disney makes Lyft official partner for Minnie Van rides

 Catching a ride inside a mouse at Disney will now officially be brought to you by Lyft. The ride-share partnership was announced on the Disney Parks Blog as the company announced its Minnie Van transportation service surpassed giving rides to 1 million passengers, although use of the Lyft app to summon the vehicles has been used since last summer.

Jacksonville's Museum of Science and History's expansion plan takes advantage of location near river

floridaIn 1941, Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History opened as a children’s museum in the city’s Riverside neighborhood. After moving to its current location near the south bank of the St. Johns River, the museum expanded and added programs to appeal to adults as well as children. In 2017, the museum hosted about 230,000 visitors, more than half of whom were adults without children. In March, the museum unveiled plans for an $80-million expansion and renovation.
