GENICON Receives “E Star ” Award From U.S. Department of Commerce

| 6/12/2019

Winter Park, Fla. (June 7, 2019) — Last month, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross presented GENICON with the President’s “E” Star Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. GENICON was one of only six U.S. companies to receive the Award for Exports.

“GENICON has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The "E" Awards Committee was very impressed with GENICON's growth in employment tied to exports since receiving the President's "E" Award for Exports in 2014. The company's commitment to

increased export market development despite encountering challenging trade barriers was also particularly notable. GENICON's achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs,” said Secretary Ross in his congratulatory letter to the company announcing its selection as an award recipient.

GENICON is recognized as an emerging leader in the design, production, and distribution of patented surgical instrumentation focused exclusively on laparoscopic surgery. Its product line includes: Single Use Access Ports, Specimen Retrieval Bags, Lavage, Ligation and Mono-Polar/Bipolar Instrumentation.

“Exporting our U.S.-designed, developed and manufactured products is what substantially contributed to the success of our firm today.  More than 50 percent of the company's revenues come from sales outside the United States.  We are proud to truly state, that wherever the sun is shining at any time, and on any given day, GENICON's products are providing superior patient care throughout the Global Healthcare system,”said Gary Haberland, GENICON CEO. “Buyers and consumers in foreign markets want quality products made in the United States, and we are honored to receive the “E” Award.”

“I want to congratulate GENICON on this well-deserved award and wish them continued growth and success,” said Jamal Sowell, President & CEO of Enterprise Florida, Inc. “GENICON is a shining example of a Florida small business that has taken advantage of the tools and programs our international trade team offers, from tradeshow grants and export counseling to market research and seminars. They have made international trade a pillar of their business and I’m thrilled to see them getting the recognition they deserve.”

GENICON and Enterprise Florida have worked together for nearly two decades. The company has attended trade shows like MEDICA in Germany, Arab Health in Dubai and Hospitalar in Brazil, as well as trade missions, including Singapore and Mexico.

In 2018, U.S. exports were the highest on record with U.S. services at $821.1 billion and U.S. exports of goods reaching $1.7 trillion, demonstrating how American private enterprise can not only survive, but thrive, in the international market.

American companies are nominated for “E” Awards through the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service office network, located within the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. Record years of successive export growth and an applicant’s demonstration of an innovative international marketing plan that led to the increase in exports is a significant factor in selecting the overall winners.

In total, Secretary Ross honored 48 companies with the President’s “E” Award, the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
