Florida pay gap: For every 85 cents a woman makes, a man makes a buck

A working woman in Florida makes 85 cents for every dollar a man makes — about $5,515 a year less than men, according to a new report released Monday by the National Partnership for Women & Families. Florida’s 2019 gap is slightly worse than a year ago, when the annual pay difference was $5,474. More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Florida gas prices hit 5-year high in March

Rising demand and tightening fuel supplies pushed gas prices higher in Florida. Pump prices throughout Florida hit their highest level for March in five years, AAA said. Prices are 13 cents higher than at this time last year. More from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and WKMG.

Hurricane Michael debris fuels 500-acre wildfire in Florida Panhandle

A wildfire that officials say quickly spread through dead trees that still hadn't been cleared after Hurricane Michael forced the evacuation of nearly two dozen homes in Florida's Panhandle. Fire officials say the fire broke out Saturday near Panama City, which was hit hard by Michael in October. By Sunday afternoon it had grown to some 500 acres (202 hectares). More from the AP.
