Who said that?

"What if the taxi had come on time?"

-- Brad Face

Brad Face went to France to visit his great-aunt. What he found, in a dusty Parisian attic, was a treasure trove of art beyond his imagining. For nearly 50 years, more than 400 paintings and hundreds of sketches by Belgian artist Louis Dewis were stashed over the elderly woman’s home.

“This happened by the grace of God,” said Face, a Virginia-based businessman who only learned of the hidden art because a taxi was delayed. “It has been a fascinating experience, both emotionally and intellectually.”

Now, Dewis’s works, mostly beautiful European landscapes, are on view at Orlando Museum of Art — and the collection could find a permanent home there.
