Hamilton County
County Population: 14,444, +0.8% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 6.3%
Per Capita Income: $27,216

Karen Williams was named executive director of the Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce. Williams is founder of S2S Ministry, which operates an internet radio station.

Levy County
County Population: 41,519, +4.9% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 16.8%
Per Capita Income: $35,385

The town of Inglis is planning a feasibility study on opening a white-water kayak venue. The proposed site would include other recreational amenities such as hiking and mountain biking trails.

Marion County
County Population: 359,983, +7.2% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 18.5%
Per Capita Income: $37,516

Ocala Breeders’ Sales reported a big increase in activity at its 2018 winter mixed sale. A total of 407 horses sold for $6.1 million, compared with 326 horses and $2.9 million the previous year. Nine horses sold for $100,000 or more, compared with just one in 2017.

Nassau County
County Population: 82,820, +9.6% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 13.4%
Per Capita Income: $52,801

Florida Public Utilities is building a headquarters in the Wildlight community. FPU joins Rayonier, the community’s developer, which opened its headquarters there.

Putnam County
County Population: 73,799, +1.9% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 10.9%
Per Capita Income: $31,594

Putnam County’s unemployment rate fell in 2017, but the county had one of the highest jobless rates in the state at 4.6%.

St. Johns County
County Population: 244,213, +16.6% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 34.6%
Per Capita Income: $66,684

The PGA Tour confirmed plans to build a 187,000-sq.-ft. headquarters, which will bring all 800 employees currently working in 17 sites under one roof.

Suwannee County
County Population: 45,785, +5.1% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 10.6%
Per Capita Income: $32,209

Construction began on a $4.5-million CSX rail spur into the Suwannee County Catalyst industrial park.

Union County
County Population: 15,647, +3.8% vs. 2013
5-Year Change in Wages / Salaries: 0.7%
Per Capita Income: $19,749

The county extended a moratorium on mining special permits until February 2019. A group of landowners is seeking to build a phosphate mine but has met opposition from citizen groups.
