Chris Hart resigns as CEO of Enterprise Florida

| 3/6/2017

Today, Chris Hart IV resigned as CEO of Enterprise Florida, the public-private partnership that promotes economic development in the state. Hart had only been the CEO for two months. Below is his resignation letter:

March 6, 2017

Dear Vice Chairman Connally,

On November 30, 2016, I enthusiastically accepted the position offered to me to become Florida’s Secretary of Commerce and Enterprise Florida’s President & CEO through the unanimous vote of the board of directors.  I knew at that time there would be significant work to be done to restore the corporation’s reputation as a highly competent economic development organization, and that much of the initial effort would be directed at members of the Legislature.  All of this I willing acknowledged and accepted.

Between November 30 and today, I have learned a great deal more about the economic development professionals who work directly for Enterprise Florida, Inc.  I have also learned more about the uniquely qualified individuals who have dedicated their professional careers at one of EFI’s many economic development partner organizations throughout the State of Florida.  The professionals I have encountered are best described as stewards of their mission, who have both personal and professional integrity, and seek to deliver value for the State of Florida and the communities they represent with a high degree of competency, every single day.  As result, I have every confidence that a fully functioning Enterprise Florida, Inc., along with its many partners throughout our great state, can and will ensure that Florida continues to be the leading economy for increasingly better opportunities for prosperity in every Florida community, and for all Floridians.

Unfortunately, during this same time period, I have come to realize that Governor Scott and I do not share a common vision or understanding for how Enterprise Florida, Inc. can best provide value within his administration.  This difference of opinion is of such a critical nature that I no longer believe I can be effective in my position.  Therefore, since I have been unable to reach consensus with the Governor and his team and have no formal agreement or contract in place, I tender my resignation from Enterprise Florida, Inc. effective immediately.

Stan, you are the right leader, at the right time for Enterprise Florida, Inc.  You truly embody all that is desired and required in an individual who has been given such a great responsibility at such a precarious time.  I have enjoyed working with you over the past two months and wish you much success.

Respectfully,

Chris Hart IV
Secretary of Commerce
President & CEO
Enterprise Florida, Inc.
