Trade deficit widens in May as exports struggle

The U.S. trade deficit widened slightly in May, reflecting declines in sales of American-made aircraft and machinery as exports continued to suffer from a strong dollar. More at the AP, the Hill, and 24/7 Wall Street.

Small Odessa company Dais Analytic part of clean energy effort in China

Dais Analytic is an Odessa company of about 30 employees that is doing clean energy work in China. To clean water, Dais uses a proprietary plastic membrane to separate water molecules from pollutants and toxins. More at the Tampa Bay Times.

Carnival Corp. gets approval to ship cruisers to Cuba

The Brookings Institution just released a major study evaluating thousands of American colleges. To analyze the “value” students can expect, researchers looked at post-graduation salaries, rates of student-loan repayment, quality of career services, and the like.
