In Sarasota, for instance, developers have about 30 major building projects under way. The Sawgrass Mills mall in Sunrise is adding 30 stores and restaurants. New stores, condos and apartments are springing up in Jacksonville. And Orlando's theme parks are continuing to set visitor records.
This year also marks a milestone for Florida. The state now has more than 20 million residents and has surpassed New York as the third most populous state in the country.
