Banking - In its latest round of executive shuffling, NationsBank Corp. tapped Adelaide A. "Alex" Sink, 50, for a second stint as president of NationsBank Florida, a post she held from 1993 until this past January. Sink was bumped from the job when NationsBank named Gene Taylor to run its Florida operations; Sink moved to the top post at the bank's Private Client Group. Taylor, a Florida native, was NationsBank Florida president from 1990 to 1993 and led the bank's Mid-Atlantic operations before his return to the state this year. He now moves to San Francisco, where he will lead NationsBank's new West Coast Division, set up as part of the bank's proposed merger with Bank of America. Management changes take effect when NationsBank's merger with Bank of America is complete, most likely in October. One difference for Sink as she returns to the NationsBank Florida presidency is a move to Jacksonville from Tampa. Sink's husband, Holland & Knight managing partner Bill McBride, plans to move to Jacksonville next year.
Chemicals - W.R. Grace Chairman, President and CEO Albert Costello will retire later this year from the Boca Raton-based specialty chemical company. Costello, 62, suffered a heart attack in October 1997. Before joining Grace in 1995, he was CEO of American Cyanamid Co. Grace is conducting a search for Costello's successor.
Communications - Former Sony and CBS executive Jeff Sagansky takes over as president and CEO of Paxson Communications Corp., the West Palm Beach company chaired by former Home Shopping Network co-founder Lowell Paxson. Sagansky, 46, a Paxson consultant since February, previously was co-president of Sony Pictures Entertainment and president of CBS Entertainment. Paxson owns 78 television stations and plans to launch a new TV network, Pax Net, later this year.
Entrepreneurs - Two Florida women, Tere Zubizarreta and Linda Novey-White, were named "Women of Enterprise" award winners by Avon Products Inc. The awards, given to five business owners and one Avon sales representative, are designed to recognize women who have overcome personal and professional obstacles to start and maintain successful businesses. Zubizarreta, 60, is founder, president and CEO of Coral Gables' Zubi Advertising Services, which caters to the Hispanic market. Novey-White, 57, is founder and president of Linda Novey Enterprises in Sarasota, an international consulting firm.
Finance - Ocwen Financial Corp., a West Palm Beach company that acquires and services bad mortgage loans, promoted Christine A. Reich to be president. She replaces William C. Erbey, who remains chairman and CEO. Reich, 37, a 10-year company veteran, most recently was president of an Ocwen subsidiary.
Veteran banker Roy McCraw takes over as executive vice president and COO of Allen & Company, a Lakeland financial services and brokerage firm. McCraw, 52, will be responsible for the firm's sales, operations and accounting. He was most recently executive vice president of Barnett Banks' Private Client Services in Jacksonville and earlier in his career served as president and COO of Clearwater's Fortune Bank, which was acquired by AmSouth in 1994.
Law - Mallory E. Horne, who served 20 years in the Florida Legislature and is the only member to have served as both Senate president and House speaker, has joined the Tallahassee office of Akerman, Senterfitt & Eidson to lead the firm's government affairs practice as an "of counsel" member. Horne, 73, a past chairman of the Public Employees Relations Commission and lobbyist for Gov. Lawton Chiles, the Florida Cemetery Association and Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, moves his practice from Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott.
Miami attorney L. Grant "Jack" Peeples was named 1998 lobbyist of the year by the Florida Lobbying Corps, comprised of registered lobbyists during the 1998-99 legislative session. Peeples, 67, is "of counsel" with the international law firm of White & Case.
Manufacturing - Sunbeam Corp., which has seen a flurry of executive turnover in recent months, tapped Judy E. Maudlin as vice president for manufacturing. Based at the company's headquarters in Delray Beach, she will be responsible for worldwide manufacturing and quality control for Sunbeam, Coleman, First Alert and Signature Brands. Maudlin joined Sunbeam last October after nine years with Digital Equipment Company.
Medicine - The Florida Medical Association's new president is Glenn E. Bryan Jr. M.D. Bryan, 49, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Melbourne, founded the Brevard Orthopedic Clinic.
Publishing - Time Inc. named Michelle M. Washington president and CEO of the Institute for Econometric Research, the Deerfield-based publisher of Mutual Funds Magazine and nine financial newsletters. Time recently purchased the Institute. Washington, 36, had been finance and operations director for Money magazine, which she joined in 1996. Previously she was corporate business manager for Cond? Nast Publications.
Restaurants - Rocky H. Aoki resigned as chairman and CEO of Benihana Inc., the Miami-based chain of 49 Japanese restaurants founded by Aoki in 1964. He cited an ongoing federal investigation into his personal investment activities as the reason for his departure. Joel A. Schwartz, president and a director of Benihana since 1982, adds the post of CEO.
Retail - Levitz Furniture Corp., the Boca Raton-based chain of furniture retailers, tapped Edward L. Grund as president of store operations. Grund, 53, joins Levitz from Sunglass Hut , where he served as executive vice president and general manager for the North American division.
Technology - The National Registry, a Tampa company that uses fingerprints in lieu of PIN numbers or passwords to verify individual identity, named company Chairman Jeffrey P. Anthony president and CEO. He replaces John L. Gustafson, 54, who resigned after three years with the company. Anthony, 39, joined National Registry in 1992 as a senior vice president and was named chairman in March. Previously, he was managing director of Shinnecock Capital Corp., a venture capital firm he co-founded.
Daniel D. Granger was named president and COO of St. Petersburg's Catalina Marketing Corp., an electronic marketing company that distributes point-of-sale grocery store coupons, online coupons and targeted incentives to pharmacy customers. George Off stepped down as president, but he remains CEO. Granger, 49, joined Catalina a decade ago and most recently led the company's primary subsidiary, Catalina Marketing Services.
Tourism - Miami's Carnival Corp. promoted Larry Pimentel, 46, to be president and CEO of Cunard Line Limited, a new company that will include Cunard and Seabourn Cruise Lines. Carnival, which already controls Seabourn, is the major shareholder in an investor group that is purchasing Cunard from Kvaerner ASA. Pimentel, who in his new position will spend most of his time in Miami, has been president of San Francisco-based Seabourn since 1992.
