South Florida brides, and wedding industry, gear up for 11-11-11

Looking for a lucky day to get married? Try 11-11-11, if you can still find a place that's not booked.

Nov. 11 is a top pick for weddings now, because couples like easy dates to remember and believe repetitive numbers bring good luck.

Hotels, event organizers and other wedding suppliers are seeing brisk business unusual for a Friday. Some have created 11-11-11 packages. Wedding specialists expect the date will be at least twice as busy as an average Friday in November.

Interior decorator Shannon Hooley is going all out with the 11-11-11 theme at her Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale wedding. She plans a dance floor in the shape of a clock, with an image of 11:11 cast upon it in lights.

She also plans to have 11 bridesmaids, 11 groomsmen and 11 children in the wedding ceremony. At the reception, instead of a guest book, she'll have a wishing tree with 33 branches — that's 11 plus 11 plus 11 — where family and friends can hang their wishes for the couple.

The bride will pause to make a wish at 11 minutes after 11 o'clock, an especially lucky moment, she believes. "I've heard that's the time when the angels are listening," said Hooley, 38, of Fort Lauderdale, who will marry 41-year-old chef James Giegel.

Fireworks are scheduled for 11:11 p.m.
