Former Verizon IT director Tony Fontanella sayas it's been a dream of his since college to teach. "My goal is that they'll be successful in school and real life." |
Tony Fontanella took an early retirement package at Verizon three years ago after working at the company for 27 years. "I saw an opportunity to do something different," says the former IT director.
Fontanella followed a college dream and went into teaching. Today, he teaches math at Hudson High School in Pasco County. He says the transition has been relatively smooth. "I'm still serving customers, just a different kind," he says.
Fontanella says his biggest challenge is convincing his students of the importance of the material he's presenting. Being able to bring his real-life workplace experiences to his lessons, he says, is pretty powerful proof to his students that math does matter outside of the classroom.
