Deputy County Manager Now City Manager

The city commission has appointed a new city manager, veteran Deputy Miami- Dade County Manager Pete Hernandez, who replaces Joe Arriola. Under the city charter, Hernandez will be responsible for all day-to-day operations and hiring and firing city employees. Arriola, whose personality riled many, resigned earlier this year following criticism of his involvement in a secret deal to avoid paying claims to tens of thousands of taxpayers potentially entitled to a refund of a fire rescue services fee. He also was criticized for failing to disclose a real estate deal he entered with Mayor Manny Diaz and former City Commissioner Johnny Winton
