Me and My Shadow

Shadow Marine's Paladin

Shipboard life can be cramped, what with no room for your helicopter, bowling alley or putting green. Plus, what happens if your chef gets sick or a valve fails on the air conditioning?

Enter Shadow Marine, which sells a line of ships tailored to be support vessels for big yachts, carrying extra crew, supplies, machine shops and recreational facilities.

In October, Fort Lauderdale-based Shadow Marine was scheduled to take the wraps off its first top-of-theline Allure class boat, christened the City of Vegas. The 215-foot boat includes a 34-foot swimming pool, helicopter pad, sky lounge and fully appointed library. It boasts a 10,000- nautical-mile range.

Shadow Marine's line of support vessels includes the 125-foot Island series, the 160-foot Mystere series, the 170-foot Paladin and the Allure. The ships cost $5 million to $11 million.
