A St. Petersburg company hailed for creating affordable housing by converting single-family homes into shared living spaces is shutting down after city officials accused the property manager of running illegal rooming houses that threatened residents’ health and safety.

The company, Docked Living, claims it was unfairly targeted by the city and was being told to make costly, unnecessary upgrades to its homes on an unrealistic timeline.

Around 40 tenants have been caught in the middle of the feud and are now scrambling to find housing after Docked Living gave them just five days’ notice to move out.
