HOTEL NEWS

Openings — The Angler’s Boutique Resort in South Beach opens this month after renovations to a 1930s-era building that had been abandoned for more than 10 years. Part of Preferred Hotel Group, the resort on Washington Avenue includes 49 studios and duplex suites, along with private outdoor spa baths, balconies, rooftop terraces and an open-air lounge and pool. Its sidewalk cafe opens this summer.

» InterContinental Hotels Group has opened a Staybridge Suites in Tallahassee at I-10 and U.S. 90 East. The property becomes the 100th hotel in the 8-year-old brand.

 

TOURISM NEWS

Disney Ships — Disney Cruise Line is doubling its fleet, adding two ocean liners to join the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. The new ships will be two decks taller than the existing vessels and are scheduled to sail in 2011 and 2012.

Theme Parks — SeaWorld Orlando has announced its new water park, Aquatica, will open in March 2008.
It will combine animal encounters with high-speed thrills and sandy beaches.

» Universal Studios Florida is creating a special venue for the Blue Man Group, a performance that joins
the park June 7. The theme park’s Sound Stage 18 is being converted into a 1,000-seat theater.
