Florida’s per-capita water consumption is finally on the decline, according to a new report from the U.S. Geological Survey. Floridians used an average 157.5 gallons a day in 2005, down from 174 gallons a day in 2000. The Southwest Florida Water Management District, which has the state’s most aggressive conservation campaign, led the decline. Its residents used an average 137.6 gallons a day in 2005. South Florida’s residents are the most wasteful, using an average 179 gallons per person per day.
