For more than a quarter-century, Gainesville-based Geohazards has been providing geological services to homeowners, insurers, government agencies and others. Founders Anthony F. Randazzo and Douglas L. Smith, both geology professors at the University of Florida, have built up a team of experts who consult on issues such as site feasibility and sinkhole evaluation. Over time, they ventured into "forensic engineering," for example, hunting for construction defects, storm and lightning damage and the like. Now, it's starting a new division, GeoHydro Consultants, where hydrologist John Herbert works on water resources and water-supply issues for municipalities and utilities.
