Several times this year we published an ad with a photo of a cute, smiling baby and this headline: “50 Years Old And Still Brand New.” The ad was part of our 50th anniversary celebration promotion, and the baby was a real attention-grabber. Several readers even told me that the baby looked just like one of their own children or a grandchild.
The ad copy pointed out that even as we celebrate this historic publishing milestone, we at Florida Trend remain committed to delivering award-winning business coverage built around our unique statewide perspective on the news and issues shaping Florida.
Our 2009 planning calendar — published on page 63 in this issue — shows how our editorial and special projects teams will be putting the focus on “new” in print and online.
A new double issue in March will join our annual Florida Small Business magazine with a regular issue of Florida Trend. In addition to offering this valuable guide for entrepreneurs and emerging companies to our subscribers, we will continue to distribute Florida Small Business statewide through our distribution partners.
The “Florida Trend 350” in June will combine for the first time our annual top public and private company rankings into one issue.
In August, we’ll announce the results of the first statewide competition to find the “Best Companies to Work for in Florida.” Companies with at least 15 full-time or part-time employees in Florida are eligible, and winners will be recognized in small, medium and large business categories. Participation is a free and secure way for your company or organization to gauge employee satisfaction and receive useful feedback.
New special sections on Logistics and Supply Chain Management (February), Healthcare (September), Young Floridians (October), International Business (November) and Corporate Diversity (December) are also planned.
We’ll publish our annual Legal Elite special report in the July issue along with the inductees into the first Florida Legal Elite Hall of Fame.
We’ll be working even harder to make our annual Industry Outlook and CEO Trends issue in January and Economic Yearbook issue in April the most reliable and valuable sources of critical information. Throughout 2009, each of our Around the State regions will be highlighted in an expanded regional report.
The Florida Innovation special report in June will be expanded to include innovations in the state’s energy and water industries.
Regular columns — Florida Life, Getaways, Dining & Spirits, Icon, Trendsetters, Innovation, Law and Politics — will deliver our statewide perspective in every issue.
Our web team is busy working on new online initiatives as well as weekly eNewsletters on industry specific topics. We’re creating interactivity on the website with more opportunities for you to weigh in on topical discussions, and we’ve also been busy implementing a wider range of offerings for advertisers to reach our growing online audience.
As we begin our second half-century, our core mission, as always, is to keep you informed about the news and the trends that affect you, your business and our entire state. We can do that better with your feedback, thoughts and
comments, and we look forward to hearing from you.
