Michelle Otero Valdés owns and runs a boutique firm. She’s practiced maritime and admiralty law exclusively for 30 years and knows all facets of civil litigation. She’s been counsel in high-profile cases and cited for her knowledge of marine insurance and casualty matters. As the first Latina, she became Florida Bar board-certified in Admiralty and Maritime Law in 2007. Her whole career she has been told to “go do family law.” Instead Valdés has mentored women who have become U.S. Coast Guard officers and partners in maritime law firms.
