If you’re one of those people who has trouble telling a warbler apart from a titmouse or sparrow, and don’t get all the fuss, that’s understandable. But there is one winter resident that is hard to mistake for anything else and is worth a trip out on the water to try to spot.

The American white pelican may be one of Florida’s original snowbirds, and one of its most majestic.

The first ones of the season arrived about a month ago. But if temperatures really do fall as predicted, hundreds more should drop in.
