Orlando City Soccer Club

Owners of Orlando City Soccer Club have moved closer to their goal of getting an $85-million stadium to attract major league soccer to the city. Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer reached a tentative agreement in August to participate, with the city donating land and the county chipping in tourist tax dollars. Team owners led by President Phil Rawlins have pledged to put $30 million toward the stadium and pay the MLS franchise fee estimated at $70 million. Owners of the Lions, a minor league team one notch below the majors, include Chairman John Bonner, a venture capitalist from the U.K. now living in the Dr. Phillips area, and Brazilian business magnate Flavio Augusto da Silva, who moved to Orlando in 2009.
