The American Dream Is Working in Florida

Every year, millions of people visit the Sunshine State to enjoy our beautiful beaches and warm weather and to meet our incredible people. This year, visitors will want to stay in Florida for more than our great beaches.

In the four years before we took office, Florida lost more than 832,000 jobs. Unemployment had more than tripled, and the state debt increased by $5.2 billion. Our housing market collapsed, our economy was off track and many families were hurting.

But, thanks to the policies we put in place over the last two years, we have turned our economy around. Florida is back on track, and Florida’s economic turnaround is getting national attention. Our statewide unemployment rate is now 7.1, lower than the national average.

According to a recent Moody’s Investors Service report, Florida’s 2013 employment growth is expected to surpass the national rate through 2017. We have now created more than 369,000 private sector jobs since December 2010 — and we have passed the halfway point to our goal of creating 700,000 jobs in seven years.

Working with the legislature, we recently approved two major economic advantages for our state: the elimination of the sales tax on manufacturing equipment and providing a pay raise for Florida’s hard-working teachers.

Investing in education and supporting job creation are providing Floridians with the opportunities to live their version of the American Dream in the Sunshine State. It’s working in Florida. Please come visit soon and see how great a place Florida is to call home.

Chairman, Enterprise Florida Inc.
