Economy expands more than forecast

Premiums Rising 5-6% for Most Floridians
Florida's average increase in health-insurance premiums under the Affordable Care Act for 2014 will be in the range of just 5 to 6 percent, Office of Insurance Regulation officials said Tuesday. That is not out of line with past years, and the new law will require health policies to cover more than many do now. More at Health News Florida.

Boca Raton-based security firm ADT has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Hollywood-based Devcon Security for $148.5 million in cash, ADT announced in its third-quarter earnings statement Wednesday. Teacher pay up in Miami, down in Florida
Wages in education in both the public and private sectors have grown in Miami-Dade County in the past six years. However, Florida salaries for educators fell in the same period. Florida Department of Education statistics show that from 2007 to 2012 the average annual salary for a teacher rose from $50,737 to $54,455 in Miami-Dade. More at Miami Today.
