Worldwide Modular brings modular construction to Miami

Fracture

Modular housing can significantly lower building costs, but those reductions are often offset by shipping distance and building height limits. Worldwide Modular has developed a process that promises to overcome those limits, setting the stage for high-rise modular construction that the company says is up to 50% faster and 30% cheaper than site-built construction. The company, which recently installed a prototype near its North Miami Beach headquarters, has a patent pending on its building process. The process begins with a site-built “skeleton” of steel and concrete columns and beams. The factory-built apartment modules, which can be shipped in typical shipping containers, are then inserted into the skeleton. Hook up utilities and install interior and exterior trim and you have modular multifamily housing that meets wind and earthquake building codes, including Florida’s and Miami-Dade’s.
