MIAMI-DADE -- Miami-Dade voters will go to the polls March 8 to decide whether to allow Las Vegas-style slot machines at horse and dog tracks and at jai-alai frontons. If approved, the county is expected to receive an estimated $3.5 million in slot-machine proceeds in the first year, jumping to about $10 million in later years. Additional proceeds will also be earmarked for schools around the state. The measure is being opposed by Indian casinos, gambling boat operators and anti-gambling groups.
