Facing a Fine

Miriam Oliphant
Former Broward County elections supervisor Miriam Oliphant has been fined $10,000 by the Florida Elections Commission for neglecting her duties during the 2002 elections. The principal charge: Opening polls late and closing them early. Oliphant had already been removed from her post by Gov. Jeb Bush following widespread complaints at a time of heightened scrutiny of Florida's election procedures.
