Anthrax Vaccine

Using only one acre of tobacco plants, the U.S. could safely and inexpensively create enough anthrax vaccine to inoculate every resident, according to University of Central Florida molecular biologist and professor Henry Daniell, whose study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Agriculture. Daniell genetically altered the plants to produce the vaccine, choosing tobacco because it grows quicker than other comparable crops.
