Hello, Dali

The Hallucinogenic Toreador

St. Petersburg's Salvador Dali Museum, which attracts 220,000 visitors annually, will get a $30-million makeover.

Construction on a new waterfront facility will begin next year with an anticipated opening in 2009.

The state's most recent $4-million appropriation for the project landed on Florida TaxWatch's list of budget "turkeys," and the Washington, D.C.-based group Americans for Prosperity lambasted federal earmarks for the new museum as an example of a "wasteful pet project."
