Women Executives

A survey of women-led businesses in Florida, conducted by the Center for Leadership at Florida International University, found 88% of the women leaders are the first to hold the post at their company.

The study, done in cooperation with the Commonwealth Institute South Florida, says 82% of women-led businesses are privately held or family controlled. For 2004, the Florida businesses run by women had a combined economic impact of more than $12 billion; 24% of them earned more than $10 million.

And the women are working hard to be there. According to the survey, available online at FIU.edu, 74% of the women said they work more than 40 hours a week, and 10% said they work more than 60 hours. Only half are satisfied with the amount of time they spend at work and private life, the study found.
