Destination: Spa

Located near Jacksonville on the Atlantic Ocean, Ponte Vedra Inn and Spa is one of only six AA five-diamond resorts in Florida.

The stately Ponte Vedra Inn and Spa, built in 1928, has catered to three generations of loyal visitors with its golf, tennis and beach amenities.

For the past year, the resort has quietly rebranded itself as the home of a destination spa, a 28,000- sq.-ft. stand-alone facility that opened last month, replacing a previous spa about one-third as large that had become so popular among local residents that resort guests sometimes had trouble getting appointments.

The new spa has 22 treatment rooms, about 100 services, luxury locker rooms, a clubhouse-like barbershop for men, two couples treatment suites, a heated outdoor pool and a dining room that features healthy fare. At the new spa, which nearly sold out all its November bookings in advance, visitors can get a traditional massage for $85 or a package of facial, massage, body polish, manicure, pedicure and lunch for $315.

Ponte Vedra Inn also has two golf courses, an oceanfront fitness center and a top-ranked racquet club and tennis center. Rooms start at $200 to $410 a night depending on season.
