"If the artifacts go to waste, so does the history."
A local group is rekindling its campaign to build a museum remembering the Clearwater Bombers, the fastpitch softball team that brought sporting success to Tampa Bay long before its pro franchises arrived.
The group’s vision is inspired by Major League Baseball’s operation in Cooperstown, New York, where the Baseball Hall of Fame has been at the forefront preserving the sport’s revered lore since 1939. Tournaments at the Hall of Fame site serve as seminal trips for young baseball players who learn the history of their sport while competing.
The Clearwater Bombers Legacy Project wants to build a museum at the Eddie C. Moore Complex, where several softball tournaments are played throughout the year. Those include the Clearwater Invitational, which is broadcast on various ESPN platforms.
With softball being played seven days a week at the complex, project leaders say they are confident that there would be no shortage of visitors.
