We're Looking for 'Person of the Year'

Bruce Faulmann | 7/1/2009

One of Florida Trend’s greatest strengths is its coverage of people. Every edition of the magazine is chock full of the names and faces of the people in Florida who are making things happen and engaging in business activity worthy of recognition. It’s a key part of our content, and it provides enormous value to our readers. I routinely hear from senior-level executives and ambitious young professionals that Florida Trend is a “must read” and an essential tool in keeping them informed about business in Florida and the people driving it.

In our spectrum of coverage, we use the monthly “Trendsetters” section to highlight people on the cutting edge of their fields whose bold ideas and innovations deserve attention. Our monthly “Icon” interview features individuals whose storied careers and sizable accomplishments have made them stars in their professions and often household names in Florida and beyond.

In January, we’ll take our coverage of people to a new level. For the first time, we will name a “Person of the Year,” a Floridian who has had a major impact in the state over the previous 12 months. The criteria for Florida Trend’s Person of the Year will be broad. Our editorial staff will consider Floridians from all fields and endeavors. And by Floridian, we don’t mean only natives. We are interested in anyone who calls Florida home. We will also have honorable mentions, highlighting others who have helped shape the state this year.

We want to hear from you, too. Tell us who you think the Person of the Year should be — and briefly explain why. Go to FloridaTrend.com/Floridian, to make your nominations.

Person of the year Over the months leading up to the January issue, we’ll run some of your nominations — along with your reasons — in the magazine. With as much modesty for our award-winning magazine as I can muster, I must add that since coming on board last November, I’ve been told many times that being on the cover of this magazine is a big deal. In fact, one elected official even went as far as to say being featured on our cover was most definitely on his “bucket list.” In other words, before he passed to the great beyond, he hoped to make the cover of Florida Trend. Now that’s an endorsement!

Please consider telling us who you think should be the Person of the Year. And please feel free to contact me anytime. I love hearing from the folks we cover.

In a special section this month, we focus on the state’s legal leaders with our sixth edition of Florida Legal Elite. The 1,039 lawyers in our lists are the ones most often recommended by their peers. New this year: The Legal Elite Hall of Fame, with 48 attorneys from 31 firms in cities all across the state.
